Australia’s textile sector is facing increasing regulatory, economic and environmental pressure. Expectations are rising around waste reduction, product stewardship, traceability, resource productivity and circularity, while global reforms are changing the standards required for market access.

Supply chain disruption, rising energy and transport costs, limited domestic capability and skills shortages further constrain industry resilience and competitiveness.

The Future Textiles CRC will help industry, including SMEs, reduce innovation risk and access shared research capability, facilities and talent; provide researchers with long-term industry-embedded translation opportunities; and deliver broader benefits through reduced textile waste, stronger local manufacturing capability, new skills and employment, and progress toward Australia’s circular economy and waste objectives.
